Welcome Home

Welcome.

I’m so glad you’re here.

This space was created as an extension of a book that was never really just a recipe book.  It’s a place where food, memory, travel and belonging meet each other at a picnic spot under a willow tree.  A place where stories simmer slowly and recipes carry the fingerprints of the people and places that shaped them.

My journey with food began long before measurements and method.  It started in kitchens filled with conversation, on farms where meals were shaped by seasons, and on long, winding roads where you learn that nourishment isn’t only about what’s on the plate, but who you share it with.  From my grandmother’s kitchen to life on the farm, street side cafés and kitchens beyond borders, from years in the Kalahari to the winding road back home — every chapter of my life has left its mark on the way I cook and write.

The recipes and stories you’ll find here, much like those in my book, are woven together.  Some come from places I’ve loved, others from people who taught me something without even realising it.  A few were born from necessity, others from celebration — all of them from lived moments.  This is not a space divided neatly into starters and mains, but rather a journey, much like life itself.

As we step into a new year, I’m reminded of the quiet strength of the Horse.  Movement with purpose, endurance without hurry.  It’s a year that invites us to trust the journey even when the path isn’t straight.  To colour outside the lines now and then.  To read between the lines of ordinary days and find meaning there.  In shared meals, your favourite recipes and small rituals that anchor us.  May this be a year of forward motion and mindful wandering, where presence matters more than perfection and we make the best of every single day.

This website is where I’ll share more than recipes.  You’ll find reflections, memories, glimpses behind the scenes of the book, thoughts on food, travel stories and the quiet beauty of everyday rituals.  It’s a place to linger, to read slowly and to perhaps recognise something of your own story in mine.

Thank you for stopping by.

Make yourself comfortable.

You’re very welcome here.
