About Hanri

Hanri’s debut book is more than a collection of recipes. It is a journey through life, across mountains — both physical and emotional — through places, people close to her heart, and memories woven together over many years.

From her childhood on the Goedgedacht farm to nine years spent in Botswana’s Kalahari, where she built her restaurant Hollandia, Hanri tells her story with nostalgia, scent, colour, emotion, and authenticity. In every recipe lies a memory, and in every photograph, a fragment of her journey home.

With heritage recipes from her grandmother Delene’s kitchen, farm dishes steeped in nostalgia, and inspiration drawn from travels across borders, this book celebrates the art of deeply satisfying yet simple, honest food — the kind that brings people together.

Hanri: Memories, Travels & Recipes on the Winding Road Home is a heartfelt tribute to family, friends, and the power of food to bind people together and shape them into better versions of themselves. A book that fills you with longing and homesickness, makes you smile, and might just tempt you to put the kettle on.
